1. The work you can take on
SmartMoving answers this question plainly on its own site: local, intrastate and interstate moves across the US and Canada. That covers a lot of moving companies, and if it covers yours completely, plenty of platforms will serve you. The question is what happens the first time you are offered a government contract, an ocean shipment or a military SCAC — whether that is a new line of business, or a reason to buy a second system.
What this looks like in practice
SmartMoving markets to military movers, and in March 2026 announced a commitment to meeting CMMC Level 1 security practices in support of them. But a mover who wins military work on a platform with no DPS connection still ends up running two systems: one for the government side, one for everything else. That means double entry, two sets of training, two support relationships and two places a shipment can go missing. EDC® built EasyDPS® and EasyGOVLINK™ so that stays one system — and since 99% of DoW-authorized SCACs already run EasyDPS®, it is the path of least resistance for the whole supply chain around you.
2. The crew app: who can use it, and what happens with no signal
Both platforms have a native crew app on Apple and Android that works on the devices you already own. Two differences sit underneath that: how many of your people are allowed to use it, and whether the job can be finished when the signal drops.
EDC Mobile™: everyone, everywhere
EDC Mobile™ is native on Apple and Android, and there is no cap on how many of your people use it. The crew completes the inventory, adds damages and photos, fills in industry forms and collects the customer’s signature with no connection at all. Everything syncs to the office automatically the moment there is a signal.

SmartMoving’s crew app is well reviewed and covers contracts, signatures and payments on site. But their own help center explains that crew app access requires an available application license, and that the access toggle is disabled when a company runs out of them. Adding a seasonal packer is not simply a matter of turning them on.
On-site pre-move surveys run through a separate Pre-Move Survey app, which their plan page lists as an optional add-on rather than part of the standard package.
The question to put to them
SmartMoving’s published materials do not say whether the crew app works with no data connection. That is not a criticism — it simply is not stated. Ask them to show you what the crew sees when the signal drops mid-inventory, and what happens to the work already entered.
Why user caps matter more than they look
Per-user licensing quietly shapes how you work. Teams start sharing logins, or leaving the helper off the app, or running the job on one phone. The paperwork gets thinner, the photo evidence gets patchier, and the gap shows up months later in a claim you cannot defend. When every person who touches the job can be on the app, the record of that job is complete.
3. AI for movers: what it actually does, and where your data goes
“AI” gets thrown around a lot in moving software. Most of it leaves you wondering what it does for your day. Two questions cut through it: does the AI do real work across the whole operation, and does your data stay yours while it happens?

The part most AI vendors will not put in writing
Most AI tools route your data through an outside provider to work. What to ask them: which providers process your call audio and customer records, whether any of it trains a model, and what happens to that data if you leave. Then ask what their AI does for the hours in between — the weight tickets, the move packets, the container loading, the dispatch board. Their CTO described AI-assisted dispatch in July 2026 as something still ahead of them.
4. Whether your partners are inside the system
Moving is not a solo business. A single shipment can pass through an origin agent, a driver, a destination agent, a warehouse, a claims adjuster and a van line — none of whom work for you, and most of whom run different software. Every one of those handoffs is a chance for the shipment to fall out of the system.
What a data exchange network actually does for you
Without one, partner updates arrive as emails and attachments, and somebody in your office re-types them. That is where the double entry lives, where the wrong weight ends up on the invoice, and where the delivery date the customer was promised stops matching the one the agent has.

SmartMoving offers an affiliate and partner portal and the National Express affiliate program, both aimed at passing leads and referrals. What their published materials do not describe is shipment-level data exchange: an agent completing an inventory that syncs into your record, or offers and status updates flowing both ways without anyone re-keying them.
For a company doing its own work end to end, that may never matter. For an agent or an interline partner, it is the difference between one system and two.

5. What happens after the truck leaves
Claims are where margin quietly disappears, and where most software stops paying attention. SmartMoving’s published feature set covers the customer service side well — a ticketing system, automated post-move surveys, review requests and a moving insurance integration. What it does not describe is a claims module: creating, receiving, managing and settling claims inside the same system that ran the move.
The evidence is already there
Damages recorded on the digital inventory, with photos and condition notes, appear on the final report and carry through to the claim. The proof that a scratch was there before your crew arrived does not have to be hunted down months later.

What is the best moving company software in 2026?
It depends on the work you take on. Which moving software handles military and government moves?
SmartMoving markets to military movers and announced a commitment to CMMC Level 1 security practices in March 2026, but publishes no connection to the Defense Personal Property System. EDC®’s EasyDPS® is the only commercial application that connects directly to DPS, and is used by 99% of DoW-authorized SCACs. EasyGOVLINK™ extends the same system to GSA, Department of State, NTS, PPM and UAB work, and EDC-MoveStar® imports GSA and NTS moves straight from bills of lading and DD forms.
Does moving software limit how many crew members can use the app?
Some do. SmartMoving’s help center states that crew app access requires an available application license, and the access toggle is disabled when a company has none left. EDC-MoveStar® places no cap on mobile users — every crew member, estimator and coordinator who needs the app can have it, and training is unlimited for all of them.
